最近10多年来，英国设计在探索制造业产品的创意性、高科技的应用中有很多的新成就。英国在技术领域的探索一向有很好的传统，从世界上第一架超音速客机“协和式”（Concorde），到微型汽车“Mini”的研发和设计，英国在这方面都具有国际水平。1970年代能源危机之后，英国的传统制造业开始衰落，服务型产业开始逐步上升，设计越来越成为经济的主要组成部分之一。1980年代推出的“辛克莱”ZX80家庭用电脑（the Sinclair ZX80 home computer）是很重要的一个产品设计。而英国设计师约纳森·艾佛（Jonathan Ive, 1967— ）在1998年为苹果电脑公司设计的iMac电脑则是一个里程碑式的设计，影响了整个世界电脑设计的发展方向。艾佛后来继续设计各种苹果产品，包括iPhone、iPad，影响巨大。英国的电玩设计很发达，重要作品有：1984年的《精英》（Elite ）、1991的《雷明斯》（Lemmings ）、1996年的《古墓丽影》（Tomb Raider ）、1997年的《汽车大盗》（Grand Theft Auto ）、2007年的《小小星球》（Little Big Planet）等。

进入21世纪以来，英国的设计中，夸张炫耀的成分减少了，代之以更多的社会责任感和独特远见。除了伦敦日渐成为世界设计中心之外，曼彻斯特、格拉斯哥这些曾在风云际会的1980年代和1990年代扮演过重要角色的城市，也得以再次焕发出青春魅力，潮流和时尚一拨接一拨，有来有往，英国的设计文化不但生存下来，而且得以发展壮大，为世界源源不断地提供着新的创意和发明。
