一七一八年一月六日，乔治国王颁发委任状与官方指令给罗杰斯。国王宣布：“鉴于巴哈马群岛领主的重大疏忽，该群岛遭受海盗及他人大肆劫掠作乱，大不列颠王冠面临丧失这颗珍宝的危机……我们……特此宣布任命你，伍兹·罗杰斯，担任我们的提督暨总督（Captain General and Governor in Chief）。”[64]

罗杰斯得偿所愿。但要不了多久，他就会希望国王当初拒绝他才好。
